The Little Bookshop Opens

A new bookstore and cafe opened this weekend just off the Montrose L train station.
The Little Bookshop has taken on the small retail space that had been Danny’s Cafe that at one time was a sit-down red sauce joint attached to Danny’s Pizza. The pizzeria remains in the corner retail location.
The retail space has been fully renovated to serve as a bookstore, coffee shop, and eventually a bar. The Little Bookshop so far is serving up coffee, but is currently seeking a liquor license to sell alcohol.

There are handful of tables, a reading nook, and bar squeezed into the cozy shop. But there is also plenty of shelf space for books, though the store is not yet fully stocked.
So far the books on offer include contemporary fiction like Karissa Chen’s Homeseeking, cookbooks, and a small children’s book section. The selection feels intentionally curated, and so far displaying good taste. The shop identifies as “Black-owned, woman-owned, Latinx-owned, family-owned,” with the books reflecting the diversity.
There’s also a pint-sized jewelry display near the checkout.
Several bookshelves are mounted on wheels so they can be pushed out of the way for events. In addition to book events, the shop plans screenings and other community-focused activities.

For now the shop is planning on opening from 8am to 6pm, but once the liquor license is approved, there are plans on remaining open later.
