Music venue the Knitting Factory Brooklyn is set to shut down on August 21.
The announcement was made on the venue’s instagram back in June.
The venue has been serving up music in Williamsburg since 2009, but has been in two other previous locations in New York since 1987, first on Houston Street and then in Tribeca.
Like many music venues in Williamsburg in recent years, the Knitting Factory was a victim of rising rents. Brooklyn Magazine reports that the landlord wanted to nearly double the rent on the space.
A new location is planned but still being negotiated.
