Calyer Place is a 1m square foot development on the East River.
The multi-tower complex fills in an empty lot between Oak and Quay along West Street.
Three towers will make up the complex when completed and include a 40-story, 32-story, and 22-story tower.
The $500 million development will have 1,000 units
Just a few years ago, this area of the waterfront was mainly abandoned warehouses.
The lot had at one time been part of the Greenpoint Terminal Market. The market ran from Greenpoint Ave to Calyer Street. The industrial buildings eventually gave way to art parties and feral dogs.
A 2006 fire at the market required more than 400 firefighters to extinguish. The fire was considered suspicious.
The development will extend Oak Street from West Street at 37 West Street.
37 West Street has been unwrapped. The site is next to Skyline Drive-In, a drive in movie theater that got its start during the pandemic.
