Large Crowds On Champ’s Last Day

Champs Diner had large crowds on the last day of service

Champs Diner had their final service on Sunday and large crowds of fans showed up to send it off.

The restaurant had smartly taken reservations, but for the many who showed up at the Meserole Street location without them, they faced hours long waits.

At one point, a hostess shouted to the crowd that there were no tables for three or four hours. Those without reservations could order take away, but were unlikely to get seated before the close of service.

The restaurant’s chef, Ro Seward, has set up a GoFundMe for the employees impacted by the sudden closure.

The Meserole Street spot was the second location for the diner, not including Champs Junior, a short-lived Greenpoint spinoff.

In a video posting on the diner’s instagram, a staff member walks through the shuttered restaurant now covered in sauce, ketchup, and dishes.
